The
Web
Site ToolKit
Samples
of web sites that followed the Web Site
ToolKit
Since
the Web Site ToolKit was launched, we have had
hundreds of people use it to create successful web
pages. I've listed web sites below that have
adhered to the following guidelines:
Design
- This is the very first thing you notice on
a web site. The design either draws you in
or pushes you away. Design doesn't have to be
fancy to be effective but it needs to be well
balanced, interesting, create and effectively
frame for the web site content. Great content
with a poor design won't get you far because
people will be literally pushed away and won't
read what's on the page.
Navigation
- These are the different areas of your web
site. Since the Web Site ToolKit prescribed
certain sections for a professional service
business site, I was looking at how well web
sites adhered to this. Most did very well in
this area. Some did variations or added a
section or two.
Content
- This is the actual information under each
of the navigation sections. Again, a good
portion of the contestants did very well in this
area. I looked at each section for how well
everyone made the case for their professional
services. It was clear that most had followed
the ToolKit well and had communicated quite
effectively about the advantages of their
services.
Formatting
- This often disregarded area is how the
actual text is formatted on the page. Like
good design, good formatting makes the
difference between high readership and low
readership. I looked for things like type face,
type size, type color, type contrast with
background, bolding and other formatting.
Usually simpler is better and those with good
clean text with subtle emphasis to make ideas
pop out worked the best.
First,
some of the best:
Melissa
Bates - Certain
Change
- United Kingdom
This is a well-crafted site with lots of
well-written, easy-to-read content. This site is
very easy to get into and navigate. This is
truly a model of an exceptional professional
services web site.
Carolyn
Morgan - Carolyn Morgan
Design
- Australia
Carolyn may have had an advantage in that she's
a designer. The color, clean design, flawless
navigation and in-depth content makes this a
winner. It certainly is better than most design
sites I've seen because it actually says
something!
Pamela
Slim - Ganas
Consulting
- United States
Pamela's use of unique graphics and design, a
clear layout, easy navigation and in-depth
content puts this web site ahead of
most.
Lisa
Edwards - Bloom Where You are
Planted
- United States
Lisa's site has it all - good clean design and
graphics. Excellent content that's easy to read
and simple, intuitive navigation.
Shelley
Simon - Beyond Practice
Management
- United States
Shelly's site has been very successful in
attracting new clients and helping her close new
business. This is an excellent site in every
way.
