The ActionPlan Game

Over the last year I have been agonizing over a very sticky problem. I've been trying to create a monthly subscription-based marketing support program. But I just couldn't figure out how to do it.

The challenge was to keep the price low while offering a lot of value. The thing that kept hanging me up was the accountability part. How do I create a program where participants will be held accountable without me spending every waking hour supporting people?

I can't tell you how many people I've bored to death talking and brainstorming about this! And I've spent several sleepless nights to no avail.

Well, last night it happened.

I had a dream. A real dream in my sleep. It was vivid, intense, and compelling. I woke up at 2:30 a.m. and it flashed through my mind in seconds. The whole program was there in every single minute detail.

I jumped out of bed and grabbed a notebook and wrote for about 90 minutes. Then I trotted over to my office (six feet out the back door), fired up my trusty Macintosh and put the whole thing together. By 9 a.m. It was complete.

And the crazy thing about this program is that I realized that the best way to launch it was by charging absolutely nothing for it. That's right, free!

Later on I believe I'll add a paid component where I'll be doing virtual presentations and group coaching, but for now, the support and accountability piece can stand on it's own.

Maybe I'm a bit brain addled because this is all I've been thinking about for the past twelve hours (plus one year), but I think this program is exciting, it's hot. And I don't use those words frequently or loosely.

The bottom line is that this program provides a simple structure for a virtual mastermind group with weekly guidelines that help you set a specific marketing goal, create a marketing plan and support you in implementing it over a two-month period.

I'm calling the program the "ActionPlan Game."

Marketing Flashes on "The ActionPlan Program"

You might say The ActionPlan Game is an efficient, effective way to get clear, get focused and get things done. There are several necessary components to this game:

* You need information - What to do and how and when to do it are key components of every plan. You need that know-how or your action plan will go nowhere fast.

* You need structure - People love structure because it frees the mind to think creatively. Like any game, you need rules, parameters and guidelines in which to play, or it's just chaos.

* You need accountability - If you don't make a timeline and set a deadline and then make a promise to someone other than yourself, the chances are that your plan will die on the vine. Accountability wakes you up!

* You need support - You're going to get stuck. You're going to get confused, frustrated, even angry when things don't go the way you'd hoped. And there's nothing like being in the trenches with those going through exactly the same experience.

* You need consistency - Marketing with impact takes time. One half-hearted effort at an eZine or speaking engagement isn't going to get you very far. A group will hold your feet to the fire.
